  The more risk factors you have the greater your chance of having heart disease.

 

RISK FACTORS

Things people do that increase risk for developing of high blood pressure

Smoking

Obesity

Inactivity

Excessive alcohol intake

High dietary intake of fat and sodium

Low dietary intake of potassium

Medical things associated with high blood pressure

Low birth weight

Family history of heart disease, diabetes, or premature heart disease

High-normal blood pressure (130Ð139/ 85-89 mm Hg)

Adult weight gain

Major risk factors for heart disease

Smoking

Elevated blood pressure (whether untreated or treated )

Elevated total cholesterol or LDL-C (Cholesterol type) levels in the blood

Low HDL-C (Cholesterol type) level in the blood

Diabetes mellitus

Advancing age

Obesity (very over weight)

  Inactivity (lack of exercise)

Additional important risk factors for heart disease

History of heart attack or stroke

Kidney disease

Men or postmenopausal woman

Family history of heart disease in women aged under 65y or men aged under 55y

Central obesity (fat around your middle section)

Elevated blood glucose level (high sugar)

Low socioeconomic status

Elevated triglyceride levels (high fat levels in the blood)
